Things to take note this 2007 NCAA College Football Season

Don't have an idea who to bet on and who to stay away from this 2007 NCAA college football season? Take a look at this.

As the 2007 NCAA college football season warms up, we will probably see some powerhouse teams from last season who come in this year merely a shell of it's former form. Of course, we'll also see great teams continue to be great and bad teams continue to stay bad.

With that said, let's put the would-be's and the has-been's in the 2007 NCAA college football season in a face-off somewhat and see which team or teams you should be betting on this year.

The ACC continue to have their problems playing football because of one reason and one reason only, no one can play quarterback. The only real QB in the conference is Matt Ryan of the Boston College Eagles, and he plays like Rex Grossman.

Across the ACC is probably the best conference in all of college football. That's the Big 12. And just because there are three teams in the said conference carrying the name Texas, no one even dared to tell them otherwise. The Texas Tech Red Raiders, the Texas A&M Aggies and of course, the Texas Longhorns, will all probably be finishing strong this season.

Of course, that's until they run into the USC Trojans.

Oh yeah, speaking of the No.1 ranked team in all of college football, the Trojans come in this season with probably the top candidate to win the Heisman, John David Booty. And as hot as the Trojans are right now, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are probably THE team who downgraded the most.

They won't be having Brady Quinn nor Jeff Samardzija, or even the defense they had last season. Of course, they're in for yet another tough schedule that will probably get them good this year.

Who will win the 2008 BCS national championship in NCAA college football? AcesAce sportsbook has the odds.

Florida Gators +500

Ohio State Buckeyes +2500

Texas Longhorns +900

Oklahoma Sooners +1000

Roger Federer V John Isner at 2007 U.S. Open Saturday

Roger Federer faces his biggest test at the 2007 U.S. Open.

And although I don't mean Roger Federer will be having a hard time beating John Isner, I do mean he'll be facing a BIG TEST on Saturday with Isner standing 6'9'' tall.

The biggest story in the 2007 U.S. Open Championships, literally, defeated Rik De Voest in the second round of the last grand slam of the tennis calendar year, setting up a third round face-off with the current king of the tennis court.

John Isner is only 22 years old and at his age, he already has some game going for him. His coach, Manuel Diaz, is rooting for his boy to win it all at the 2007 U.S. Open Championships.

''Right now he's on cloud nine. The way he's hitting his ground strokes, he's on a totally different level than he was a month ago. That's all confidence,'' Diaz said.

If there's one thing Diaz can describe John Isner, it's probably the fact that he's always eager to learn.

''One of the first things I told him was, 'You need to be a serve and volleyer,' I expected him to question it or get frustrated. But that was one thing off the bat that set him apart. He bought into it right off the bat.''

Of course, betting against Roger Federer come Saturday is still a bad idea.

Felix Trinidad V Roy Jones Jr. on January 26

Felix Trinidad will meet Roy Jones Jr. in a match we almost failed to see.

Yes, Felix Trinidad will be making his return to the squared circle to fight the man once dubbed as ''the best pound for pound fighter in the world,'' Roy Jones Jr. This fight was initially scheduled in 2001 but thanks to Bernard Hopkins knocking out Trinidad, it never happened.

Boxing promoter extraordinaire Don King, announced that we will finally see this epic bout between the two greatest fighters of their era. Two future Hall of Famers Felix Trinidad and Roy Jones Jr. will meet in a pay-per-view fight on January 26 at Madison Square Garden.

''We just made this fight. It's a fight made in boxing heaven,'' Don King said. ''We're gonna start the year off with a bang.''

Although both Felix Trinidad and Roy Jones Jr. are no longer the same explosive boxers we all loved watching in the past, this is probably going to be a good one still considering the fact that there's a scarcity somewhat of great boxing matches in the sport these days.

For what it's worth, Felix Trinidad will be coming out of retirement for the second time to fight a guy like Roy Jones Jr. who the world seems to have forgotten already.

Felix Trinidad will be more than happy to move up for the 12-round, 170-pound fight. Felix NEVER fought above 160 pounds but for some reason, he is claiming that 170 will just be right for him.

''I'm going to feel very good at that weight,'' Felix Trinidad said. ''The night of the fight that weight will be right for me.''

As for Roy Jones Jr., he doesn't like the fact that he has to make the 170-pound limit for his fight with Trinidad considering that he has fought on 170 in the past.

''You don't like it, but you got to do it,'' Roy Jones Jr. said. ''I'll sacrifice a few pounds to make the fight with Tito. Of course it will be difficult, but I'll do it. This is a fight worth getting up for.''

Jones weighed 193 when he dominated John Ruiz to win a heavyweight world title in 2003. Jones' lightest fighting weight was 167 for his final super middleweight title defense in 1996.

Can F1 driver Felipe Massa win in Istanbul again?

It was in Istanbul last year where Felipe Massa scored his first ever win in Formula One.

In what has been an interesting 2007 F1 season, Ferrari driver No.2, Felipe Massa, claims that he's gearing up for a late push for the F1 world championship starting from where he scored his memorable first career win, the Turkish Grand Prix.

As of press time, Felipe Massa sits in fourth place with only six more races to go. Time is indeed running out for the Brazilian sensation. Felipe Massa has 59 championship points, behind Ferrari teammate and third place man Kimi Raikkonen who has 60.

The two Ferrari drivers both trail the two McLaren drivers, Lewis Hamilton and two-time defending F1 world champion Fernando Alonso, who has 80 and 73 points respectively.

Coming to the 2007 Turkish Grand Prix in Istanbul this Sunday, Felipe Massa believes he has evolved from a first time F1 driver last year to a title contender when he returns to the very track he had his first ever career win in Formula One.

''Turkey last year I was a first time race winner and in the space of 12 months things have changed as I am now chasing a title,'' Felipe Massa said.

''Last year, from Turkey onwards I had a great Championship, so that is an encouraging sign. In fact, I like the all the tracks that are coming up now, so I hope we end the season in style.''

''As a team, we try and have a package that is competitive at every circuit, but Istanbul is the first of a series of quick tracks and I think these will suit us particularly well.''

''I love the track and the city and I really hope to repeat the great result from last year, when I was very strong all weekend, starting from pole position and winning on Sunday. I hope we can do it again.''

USC Trojans, STILL the No.1 team in College Football

The legend of the Trojans continue coming to the brand new college football season.

With the 2007-08 NCAA college football season merely a couple of weeks away, one can't help but talk about the USC Trojans although I don't know if these guys can finally win the big one come January.

For what it's worth, John David Booty will try to bring a championship to the Trojan side as he starts the 2007-08 NCAA college football season to follow the footsteps of Trojan greats like Carson Palmer and of course, Matt Leinart.

This will be the second year John David Booty will be leading the Trojan offense since Matt Leinart was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals and mind you, leading the USC Trojans at the quarterback position is no easy task too. With former Trojan QBs Palmer and Leinart both Heisman trophy winners, the expectations to succeed should be high for Booty coming to the brand new season.

Southern California football was not always about the quarterbacks. Before, the running game was the bread and butter of the Trojan offense and understandably, before Reggie Bush got there, four Trojan running backs all became Heisman trophy winners.

Since Carson Palmer won the Heisman trophy in 2002, the quarterback tradition in Southern Cal started. Matt Leinart followed after winning the Heisman trophy himself in '04. Bush got the RBs going in Southern Cal after winning the trophy in 2005 but now that he's in the NFL, the Heisman trophy is left to a quarterback to win again, as far as USC is concerned anyway.

Can John David Booty do it? Well, the Trojans camp is excited.

''We're real excited about J.D.,'' USC Trojans head coach Pete Carroll said. Carroll was the guy who has orchestrated this amazing Trojan run since his hiring before the 2001 season. Maybe that's why a number of NFL teams are interested with the old fart.

''A year ago, he was coming back from back surgery. But he's made an effort to get in the best shape of his life. He's faster and stronger than he's ever been.''

Can Michael Owen get his starting job back in Newcastle?

Michael Owen is not Allardyce's favorite footballer in Newcastle.

With the 2007-08 English Premiere League season here, Newcastle big boss Sam Allardyce is apparently laying down the law after telling Michael Owen that he has to fight for a starting spot in his rotation this year.

It turns out that Newcastle United manager Sam Allardyce now has Obafemi Martins ready to take over Michael Owen's spot with Owen contemplating on leaving the Newcastle contingent during the offseason.

At least Allardyce is STILL letting Michael Owen to fight for his starting job anyway. Of course, we all know the Newcastle general manager already made up his mind after Owen's flirtation with an exit from Newcastle before this season.

And it doesn't come any simpler as far as the Newcastle rotation is concerned. With the arrival of Mark Viduka, he now joins both Owen and Martins for a starting spot, probably. Not to mention Allardyce making guarantees that ANY of his boys can also compete for starter positions.

When Mark Viduka came in, many expected that he will lead the Newcastle line, alongside Owen or Martins. Then again, I guess only Allardyce knows.

''Oba was the main man last year because Michael was kept out with injuries, but they will be fighting with each other for a place this season,'' Sam Allardyce said.

''We can also use a bit of squad rotation and have competition for places, which is what you need for your frontmen. Unfortunately for Michael, this thigh injury has taken longer than we thought to get better and missing pre-season is a big blow for him and us.''

Here are the odds from Bodog on who will win the 2007-08 English Premiere League title.

Manchester United +150

Manchester United V Reading on Sunday

The 2007 English Premiere League season has officially begun.

Manchester United will face Reading on Sunday in a fixture that could very well be the Red Devils' first match they need to win in their defense of the English Premiership title.

The Red Devils are talking and they should, after beating Chelsea FC 3-0 in a shootout to win the Community Shield and kick off the brand new 2007-08 English Premiere League season in style.

Manchester United can talk a little trash now, more specifically Cristiano Ronaldo, who wants to win the double for the Red Devils of Old Trafford.

Cristiano Ronaldo wants to win the double for Manchester United this season, THAT means winning the Premiership and the UEFA Champions League. Ronaldo believes Old Trafford has a stronger team compared to the team that won the Premiership last time and he is expecting more hardware this time around.

''Our team is stronger than it was last year,'' Cristiano Ronaldo said. ''It is always difficult to win the Premier League but we have bought four great players so we don't just want to win the league, we want the Champions League as well.''

Cristiano Ronaldo, the 22-year old football icon from Portugal and voted as the fan's favorite player of the year, expects more meaningful silverware in the 2007-08 English Premiere League season. More importantly, Ronaldo wants Man-U to go a couple more steps further than their UEFA Champions League semi-finals stint last time.

Manchester United will be going up against Reading on Sunday and Cristiano Ronaldo believes his team will even be in better form compared to last Sunday's fixture with Chelsea FC for the Community Shield.

Who will win this Sunday's fixture between Manchester United and Reading? AcesAce sportsbook has the odds.

The 89th PGA Championship is here

Can Tiger Woods finally win the big one?

The 89th PGA Championship kicked off August 9 and will conclude on August 12, and like any other major golf tournament in the planet these days, Tiger Woods is the heavy favorite to win the final major of the season.

It seems winning the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational did not confuse Tiger from the ''real goal'' and the most important one at that, win the PGA Championship.

Tiger Woods already has four PGA Tour wins this season while topping the tournament's money list. He leads the 2007 FedEx Cup points race too. But I reckon the season will just be meaningless to Tiger if he doesn't win the 89th PGA Championship over golf's four-day weekend.

''Golf-wise, it's been pretty good, but not great,'' Tiger Woods said of 2007. ''If all you win is a major, then it's a great year. I just think the major championships are valued that highly. I've come close. I just haven't gotten it done yet.''

Tiger Woods will be coming in the 89th PGA Championship with T-2, T-2 and T-12 finishes at the first three major championships of the year. However, with all of Woods' accomplishments, this one seems to elude him the most and one golfer, Zach Johnson, is just happy to know that Tiger is human after all.

''You expect him to always be there,'' Zach Johnson said.

''Typically he always is. Finishing and coming through with the win is certainly not easy. You know there is a Tiger factor. For me, there always will be because we're the same age. In the majors, you expect him to be there, and clearly he will be at some point. I don't know why he didn't come through. It's good to know he's human, I guess.''

Who'll win the Pennsylvania 500 on NASCAR Sunday?

The 2007 NASCAR Nextel Cup season returns to the Pocono Raceway.

For the second time this year, 47 of the best NASCAR drivers in the world resume the race for the Nextel Cup after Indianapolis.

The last time NASCAR was at the Pocono racetrack, Jeff Gordon was pouring champagne all over himself, all over his team and all over the Pocono Raceway after winning last June. Can Jeff have the stuff to win at Pocono for the second straight time?

Well, if Jeff Gordon do win the Pennsylvania 500 this Sunday at Pocono, it will be his fifth win at the racetrack, tying Bill Elliot for the most Nextel Cup wins there.

Apparently, TEAMS seem to dominate these races at the Pocono Raceway. That means if Jeff Gordon won the first one of the season, somebody from Gordon's Hendrick Motorsports team might just win it if Gordon himself won't.

One thing going for drivers outside Hendrick Motorsports is the fact that Chevrolets seem to always win after Indianapolis. THAT means Dale Earnhardt Jr. still has a chance to steal this one away from Gordon on Sunday when it's time to step on the gas.

Last but certainly not the least, age has always been a major factor at the Pocono Raceway. There has never been a driver younger than 24 or older than 36 who won a race there.

Can Jeff Gordon win the Pennsylvania 500 this Sunday? AcesAce Sportsbook has the odds.

Can Felipe Massa win the 2007 F1 Hungarian GP?

Felipe Massa wants revenge for Ferrari on Sunday.

After engaging McLaren's Fernando Alonso in a verbal confrontation after the last race in Germany, Felipe Massa seems intent to get some revenge on his rival at the 2007 Hungarian Grand Prix this Sunday.

Apparently, Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso got involved into some sort of incident during the race at the Nurburgring in Germany that Massa immediately confronted the two time F1 world champion right after the race.

Add that to the latest scandal that involves both of their teams and you can only imagine how deterined Felipe Massa is to beat McLaren-Mercedes.

''It's certainly not a nice moment for this sport,'' the 26-year-old Ferrari driver Felipe Massa said. ''It's not up to us drivers to judge, but we can have our opinions. I think president Montezemolo and Jean Todt will be able to react.''

''Us drivers will have to do it on the track, by working and driving at the best of our abilities. The gaps aren't too big and we are competitive: I would have won at the Nurburgring if it wasn't for the problem in the rain at the end with the tires.''

As for the incident involving him and McLaren driver Fernando Alonso in Germany?

''Something happened that I wish it won't happen again,'' Massa said. ''But I don't regret what I did, as in the end I had a normal reaction. We are there fighting for positions, fighting for the championship, and sometimes you can't just control your nerves so easily.''

''We'll attack in Hungary already, where we'll be able to contradict (anyone) who believes it's not a track suited to Ferrari,'' Massa added.

What will happen if Barry Bonds finally overtakes Hank Aaron?

Whether he cheated or not, Barry Bonds should be remembered as one of the greatest sluggers to ever swing a baseball bat.

It seems many are playing the hate game on Barry Bonds with all the steroids issues the guy had and continue to have en route to his date with destiny. That being the owner of the MLB all-time home run record.

How come so many people hate Barry Bonds? Is it because of those alleged steroids he allegedly used to come to this point? Or is it because of the fact that one of baseball's heroes will be overtaken again?

Contrary to some people, Hank Aaron, the same man Barry Bonds is about to overtake, was hated so much too when he was about to surpass the legendary babe Ruth.

Hank Aaron then received all kinds of criticism from the then ''loyal baseball fans.'' Obviously, most of the negative reaction was racial and every single mail Hank Aaron received then was or racist nature.

''How dare a black man break the record of a white man?'' THAT was the initial reaction whenever someone talks about Aaron's pursuit of the legendary Babe Ruth.

People hated Hank Aaron so much that the stream of hate mail he received then was just downright tasteless.

''It was the most vile, disgraceful, intensely vicious stuff,'' MLB Commissioner Bud Selig recalls. ''The hatred was unbelievable. It was so bad you went beyond anger. It broke your heart. Hank had a wonderful career, he never embarrassed anybody, he conducted himself with class and dignity, and he got those awful letters.''

As for Barry Bonds, people don't have a problem with the color of his skin. It's what he puts under it. Nevertheless, he will STILL be the new owner of the MLB all-time home run record and everybody will love him for it soon enough and hate the guy who will be breaking his record in the future.
