2007 MLB Baseball All-Star Game nears

We are merely DAYS AWAY from MLB baseball's 14th Midsummer Classic.

The 2007 MLB All-Star break is here as the baseball year takes a break from the daily grind as it prepares for the second half of the MLB baseball season.

Headlining this year's MLB All-Star game in San Francisco is San Francisco's own, Barry Bonds. The San Francisco Giants superstar overcame a 119,000-vote deficit in the final days of balloting for the 2007 MLB All-Star Game to finish ahead of Chicago Cub Alfonso Soriano.

Bonds finished the balloting 123,000 votes in front of the Chicago Cubs standout.

''I'm at a loss for words right now,'' Barry Bonds said. ''It just means more 'cause I'm at home. This is my town. This is my house. You can't say enough about being at home. It's great. This is the one I'll remember all time. This is the one I'll remember forever.''

The Boston Red Sox and defending American League champions Detroit Tigers led all teams with five players selected. Boston has David Ortiz, Mike Lowell, Manny Ramirez, Josh Beckett and Jonathan Papelbon all selected as 2007 MLB All-Stars for the American League.

The Detroit Tigers, on the other hand, had three players elected to start for the first time since 1983. Placido Polanco, Magglio Ordonez and Ivan Rodriguez will be at the 2007 MLB All-Star game.

As bad as these MLB baseball players are looking forward for the 14th Midsummer Classic, the New York Mets are just happy to get a break from the season.

The Mets are only about four games ahead of the Atlanta Braves and with Oliver Perez being slowed down by a sore lower back, the Mets can afford to rest Perez as the 2007 MLB baseball season pauses.

The Mets have placed the injured Perez in the disabled list.
