2007 Tour De France concludes at Champs-Elysees Sunday
The top cyclists of the world will be competing in the final stage of the 2007 Tour De France this Sunday.
Stage 20, the last and final stage of the 2007 Tour De France, will be a 146km-race that will stretch from Marcoussis to Paris Champs-Elysees. The eight laps of the traditional final circuit around the Champs-Elysees will be preempted by a 90km-loop going through the southern suburbs of the capital of France.
The 2007 Tour De France is the 94th edition of the cycling extravaganza.
Among the top drivers who will NOT be competing for the 2007 Tour De France title is Michael Rasmussen of Denmark. Rasmussen was taken out of the Tour De France after winning last Wednesday's stage. He violated some of the team's internal rules after intentionally missing two of his team's drug tests.
It seems the UCI, cycling's world governing body, doesn't want him to win either. So what did Rasmussen said after all this?
''Of course I'm clean,'' Rasmussen said, after he was tested for illegal substances following Wednesday's stage win. ''Like I said, I've been tested 17 times now in less than two weeks. Both the peloton and the public, they're just taking their frustration out on me now.''
''I mean, all I can say is that by now I had my test number 17 on this Tour, and all of those have come back negative. I don't feel I can do anymore than that.''
Rasmussen's fiercest rival towards the 2007 Tour De France title is probably Spain's Alberto Contador. Rasmussen and Contador have been going at each other since they met one-two in this year's Tour De France standings.
With Michael Rasmussen out, the 2007 Tour De France title could now belong to Contador when it's all said and done.
